Jonah KIM / cello

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kim taught himself the cello watching VHS tapes of Pablo Casals. He was awarded full scholarship to The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division at the age of seven. Growing up in New York City, he also played for pedagogues like Aldo Parisot and Harvey Shapiro. Kim then became penpals with Janos Starker who invited him to Bloomington just before his ninth birthday. He continued to study with Starker throughout his career at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he enrolled at eleven years of age. Under the supervision of then Dean Robert Fitzpatrick, he was the first fellow ever to train with multiple instructors, receiving lessons from Orlando Cole, Peter Wiley and Lynn Harrell. Kim defines a truly American school of cello by reconciling the Italian, German, Russian, Franco-Spanish and Hungarian lineages.

Javier García-Lascurain / piano

The pianist Javier García-Lascurain began studying piano at the age of 7 in the Sala Chopin. His participation in the tribute to the pianist Esperanza Cabrera from Querétaro stands out. He was a soloist with the Classical Orchestra of Mexico, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Querétaro and of the UAEH Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Carlos Esteva, Jesús Almanza, José Guadalupe Flores and Armando Vargas.

He currently divides his time between his students, musical projects, and performances that include solo recitals, singer accompaniment, and chamber music.

Clif Foster / violin

     Clif grew up in the Chicago area where he was introduced to music by his mother, a high school orchestra conductor. He attended the American Conservatory of Music and his further violin studies were with Paul Makanowitzky.  He has played under such highly regarded conductors as Carlo Maria Giulini, Georg Solti and Daniel Barenboim and has recently retired from the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. He has performed and recorded with many popular artists. His television credits include Good Morning America and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. 

 

From 1994 to 1998, Clif was Concertmaster for the Yanni World Tour and he appears on the Tribute and Albert Hall videos. For the last twenty years, Clif has been active in bringing chamber music performances to Benicia, California. He currently lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where he continues his chamber music career. He lives with his wife Paula, their German Shepherd Amma, and little Layla.

Julia Rowe / ballerina

Julia Rowe was born in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania and received her training from Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet School. Straight out of school in 2008, Julia joined Oregon Ballet Theatre in the corps de ballet and was promoted to the soloist rank shortly thereafter.

 

In 2013, she joined San Francisco Ballet, and was promoted to soloist in 2016. Julia has performed a wide variety of classical and contemporary repertory throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. With San Francisco Ballet, she has danced roles such as Princess Florine, more famously known as the Bluebird Pas de Deux in Helgi Tomasson’s The Sleeping Beauty, Cupid in Don Quixote, Russian Girl in George Balanchine’s Serenade, and Stepsister Clementine in Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella.
