EXPANDED MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR MEXICO’S RISING STARS

In addition to our compressed concert schedule, we have an ambitious program to train advanced Mexican students. The students compete from throughout Mexico to have the opportunity to work with internationally renowned artists in master classes, to hear them rehearse and perform and to perform themselves in concert for the general public. The quality of the musicians who are applying to this program is so good, that we are returning to a term used by the Festival in the past, not students but Rising Stars. The master classes for our season 2020 will be given by Brooklyn Rider and Magos Herrera, Ying Quarter, Orion Weiss and Parker Quartet.

Our education program starting last year has been expanded through the efforts of two professional violinists now residing in San Miguel, Felicia Moye and Clif Foster. We are reaching out to university and conservatory programs throughout Mexico to prepare quartets or piano trios, who will come to San Miguel for two days for the opportunity to participate in master classes and hear rehearsals and two concerts from our artists, some of the most noted musicians in the world.

AMIT PELED IN RESIDENCE FOR CONCERTS AND CLASSES DURING CELLO WEEK

Due to our big success in 2018 we are welcoming back Amit Peled and Peabody Peled Cello Gang in 2020. From August 13-20 they will be in residence in San Miguel and perform together in two concerts. For the first concert on August 18, Amit Peled will be performing with the Peabody Peled Cello Gang and on August 19, Amit will be leading a cello choir of 18; the cello gang plus twelve Mexican students who have competed for the opportunity to work with them.

The final concert of faculty and students will take place at the beautiful Hacienda Santa Clara, a highlight of last year’s Festival, and be followed by a grand party to celebrate the achievements of the week and the season.
