FRIENDS OF THE FESTIVAL
The Chamber Music Festival of San Miguel celebrates its 41st Season in 2019. Those of you who were with us in 2018 realize that we are on an upward swing in our programming and educational outreach. This season continues that trend. This year’s season is truly a festival with music from around the world and a shining example of why San Miguel was designated as a 2019 Cultural Capital of the World.
FIVE WEEKS OF THE WORLD’S BEST CHAMBER MUSIC
August 2019 has five weeks. We will open the Festival on August 2 and 3 with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano with Israeli soprano, Sivan Rotem. The following weekend will be the return of the Dover Quartet on August 9 and 10. The Gryphon Trio will play concerts on August 16 and 17. All concerts will be in Angela Peralta Theater and the Saturday night concerts will be followed by festive house parties where you can meet the musicians and other patrons and sponsors.
EXPANDED MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR MEXICO’S BRIGHTEST STUDENTS
On the Saturday morning of these first three weekends you will be invited to attend a Master Class which the musicians will give to advanced students who will compete for the honor. Our education program this year has been expanded through the efforts of two professional violinists now residing in San Miguel, Felicia Moye and Clif Foster.
We are reaching out to university and conservatory programs throughout Mexico to prepare quartets or piano trios, who will come to San Miguel for two days for the opportunity to participate in master classes and hear rehearsals and two concerts from our artists, some of the most noted musicians in the world.
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA IN RESIDENCE FOR CONCERTS AND CLASSES
From August 18-31 the Symphonie Atlantique of the Netherlands will be in residence in San Miguel. They will give four concerts with various combinations of instruments. The full orchestra will number twelve musicians and the selections will cover several musical periods, including baroque with original instruments. The August 23, 24 and 30 concerts will be performed in Angela Peralta Theater.
During the last week in August, twelve students who have competed for the opportunity to work with them and to perform in concert will join them. The details of this second week will be announced soon and you will be thrilled with the new collaborations we have established to make this Education Week a highlight of the Festival for the future.
The final concert of faculty and students will take place in an exciting new location and be followed by a grand party to celebrate the achievements of the week and the season.
