U.S. Advanced Music Student Program
Have fun and grow as a musician as you participate in San Miguel's 32nd International Summer Chamber Music Festival’s Advanced Music Student Program.
The San Miguel Chamber Music Festival has had a music school each year provided by in-residence professional musicians from the U.S. for over 30 years. Today our alumni are playing professionally and teaching in Europe, the United States and Mexico.
The emphasis of the school is on easy access to and learning from the professional musicians who love sharing their time and experience with talented, committed music students who are perusing music as a potential career. Classes are held in the stunning Bellas Artes building (National School of Arts of Mexico) as well as in area schools and hotel facilities.
The festival also provides many opportunities to polish your skills as a musician by playing in front of a very appreciative public. Imagine playing in the center of this historic city in the town square as tourists stop to listen, the mariachis smile, the children gather around, local people break into applause - and you are an international ambassador for bringing joy through music. Student ensembles also play in theaters and churches.
A typical day’s schedule is: 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. practice time. 10:00 to noon, master classes both in-group and individually with in-residence or visiting artists. Noon to 1:00 rehearsal time. 1:00 to 3:00 break and lunch. 3:00 to 5:00 individual and group rehearsal with access to in-residence professors. 5:00 to 6:00 ‘Music Hour’ given by student ensembles in public places. 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. professional concerts in the Angela Peralta Theater or 18th century churches with excellent acoustics. Students congregate in the town square and restaurants for fun after concerts. Outings are also scheduled to the hot springs for fun and to rural communities to provide concerts for children.
