History of the festival
The San Miguel Chamber Music Festival began 32 years ago when, under the leadership of Carmen Massip de Hawkins, a dedicated group of music lovers established the tradition of presenting chamber musicians of the highest caliber in San Miguel de Allende.
From the Fine Arts Quartet which opened the first Festival through to this year, the Festival has presented over 100 groups and soloists from many continents. The Festival’s raison d’etre is education and every year offers young, advanced-level students from Mexico and North America the opportunity to participate in workshops and master classes conducted by the Festival quartet-in-residence as well as the many performing groups that are presented in concert.
Having supported the development of over 1,000 young musicians since 1979, the Festival continues this tradition into the next decade. Founded on the presentation of the great artists of our day and dedicated to the development of the next generation of musicians, the San Miguel Chamber Music Festival is now firmly established as a premier chamber music event in Mexico and as an important international music destination.

Historia del Festival
El Festival de Cámara de San Miguel de Allende comenzó hace 32años cuando, bajo la dirección de Carmen Massip de Hawkins, un dedicado grupo de amantes de la música estableció la tradición de la presentación de músicos de cámara del más alto calibre en San Miguel de Allende.
Desde el Cuarteto de Bellas Artes que inauguró el primer festival hasta este año, el festival ha presentado más de 100 grupos y solistas de todos los continentes. La razón de ser del Festival es la educación, y cada año ofrece a los jóvenes estudiantes de nivel avanzado de México y América del Norte la oportunidad de participar en talleres y clases magistrales dirigidas por el cuarteto-en-residencia del Festival, así como por los grupos invitados que se presentan en concierto.
Después de haber apoyado el desarrollo de más de 1.000 jóvenes músicos desde 1979, el Festival continúa esta tradición en la próxima década. Fundamentados en la presentación de los grandes artistas de nuestro tiempo y dedicados al desarrollo de la próxima generación de músicos, El Festival de Música de Cámara se ha establecido firmemente como principal evento de música de cámara en México y como un importante destino de la música internacional.
